The U.S. government has added American Single Malt Whiskey as an officially recognized type of whiskey. The Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau (TTB) announced the decision at the end of December, and it went into effect on January 19. This is the first time in 52 years the TTB has added a new type of whiskey to its regulations, and it’s hard to overstate the impact this is having on some American whiskey producers and enthusiasts.
